Dept. of Genetic Engineering reaches highest number of graduates entering Samsung Bioepis 2016.01.04

In last year’s second half recruitment cycle, Dept. of Genetic Engineering, Biotechnology and Engineering College. recorded the highest of number of successful candidates, of any one department, to Samsung Bioepis. It is an outstanding accomplishment to have 5 of the 35 recruits, bachlors and masters,  coming from one department, in a single recruitment cycle. Of those recruitied for research 2 were masters and 3 were bachlors. Already being the department with the highest numbers of graduates in Samsung Bioepis, the news is casting positive light on the department’s future.


As the significance of the issue on the aging society and food stuffs are recently becoming evermore prominent, so is the scale of the global bio-industry. Demand for bio-experts are increasing as domestic and foreign major companies and large pharmaceutical companies are actively investing in the bio-industry. For Samsung, they are operating the research company, Bioepis and the manufacturing company, Bio-logics. For SK, SK Chemicals which was originally one company, diversified and expanded its vaccine department into SK Chemical, its pharmacy department into SK Biopharm and its serum department into SK Plasma. For LG, they have been growing their portion of the bio business which includes Living Health, Bio Science and Chemicals.


In addition Dept. of Genetic Engineering produced a number of successful candidate to the domestic major companies including Samsung Bio-logics, LG, CJ, Amore Pacific, Cell Trion, LotteChilsung and more. This trend is considered to reflect the results of a steep increase in the demand for bio-engineering expertise in the bio-industry.


Prof. Oh, Jung Su from Dept. of Genetic Engineering said “As the industry of the 21st century and one of the fastest growing buisnesses, the bio-industry is seeing a great number of top level researchers coming from SKKU, and as prospect for demand on experts in bio is expected to grow the future for our students is very bright.”


In addition, successful job-seeking students of the Dept. of Genetic Engineering planned a Job Aquiring Experience Presentation and held it on Dec. 11. where they shared their experience and was well received by students.
