SKKU-Korea Railroad Research Institute, cooperation in convergence research on AI in railroad

- creating an environment for academic-industry cooperative convergence research on AI in railroad, logistics, and public transportation

Sungkyunkwan University (President Dong-Ryeol Shin) and Korea Railroad Research Institute (Director Seok-Yoon Han) signed an AI technology exchange agreement for K-luxury railroad technology on November 17 (Wed). The agreement ceremony held at Korea Railroad Research Institute and Dong-Ryeol Shin, SKKU President, Seok-Yoon Han, the director of Korea Railroad Research Institute and other major related personnel attended.

Based on this agreement, two institutes plan to actively cope with the paradigm shift following the Fourth Industrial Revolution and contribute to social and industrial development by jointly solving local and corporate problems and enhancing the technological competence of railroad‧logistics‧public transportation.

Additionally, it will not only focus on convergence research to revitalize AI research on railroads, logistics, and public transportation, but also on operating customized education programs, jointly building and utilizing AI platforms, and fostering future talent through industry-academic cooperation.

Sungkyunkwan University held the ‘AI Vision Strategy Declaration Ceremony’ in 2019 and was selected as the first state-run AI graduate school with the support of the Ministry of Science and ICT, and is emerging as the world’s best AI R&E university.

To develop smart railroad and transportation technology, Korea Railroad Research Institute is developing an AI standard platform which can easily and quickly support the convergence of traditional railway technology and artificial intelligence technology. In addition, it is making every effort to build an artificial intelligence railroad integration platform to become the world’s top railroad research institute, including the Ministry of Science and ICT’s operation of a big data center in transportation and digitalization of railroad comprehensive test tracks in Osong, Chungcheongbuk-do.
