SKKU, the First Korean University to operateSuper Computing Center

Starting service after signboard hangingceremony on April 20th

Expected to be utilized for education practicesand support research activities

SKKU (President Dong Ryeol, Shin) announced that HPC (High-Performance Computing) is in service after the signboard hanging ceremony on April 20th. SKKU is the first to independently operate a Supercomputing Center at the university level, not by a professors lab or with an external institution.

SKKU will utilize Supercomputing Center to enhance research capability and productivity, planning to escalate towards the best research Scale-up platform. Furthermore, this will efficiently supportreceiving and executing middle-big-sized research projects.

SKKU Supercomputing Center possesses the 40 newest versions of NVIDIA’s (USA) GPU. Lablup (Korea) will provide service by GPU cluster management platform. Theoretical performance is at the level of 780TFlops, meaning that it can do 780 trillion calculations per second.

Flops (Floating-point operations per second) is a unit used to describe the performance of supercomputers, represented by the number of the floating-point process done per second.

Professor Hyung Kee, Choi, the Head of theSupercomputing Center, said, “The center will prevent overlapped investmentwithin the institution by managing the supercomputing center at the universitylevel. With the opening, expect to help research capability and improveeducational practice through continuous performance enhancement.”
