On Nov.10, the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that Ewha Womans University and Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) were selected as the 2016 Performing Institute for ‘Pharmaceutical Industry Specialized Graduate School Support Project.’

Next March, both universities are planned to conduct education to produce specialist by providing a ‘hands on curricular education’ consisting a convergent ‘multidisciplinary program’ combining pharmacy • medicine • business and other fields, field training and internship cooperation program with industry & other universities and more.

Both universities receive subsidies in the amount of 500 million won for running the program, supporting scholarships and more, for 2016. After that, depending on assessment results a maximum 2.5 billion won budget will be additionally provided for up to 5 years (3+2).

Pharmaceutical Industry Specialized Graduate School Support Project is to establish and operate courses targeted to cultivate master-level talents who will deal with Technology Management(R&D management), Licensing, Global Marketing, etc. At the primary selection, SKKU and Chungbuk National University were selected while at the secondary selection Chung-ang University was selected.

This time, six institutes (five schools of pharmacy, one business school) have applied and were screened based on categories like excellence in educational strategy, plan for global academic-corporate cooperation and project operational ability and willingness.

Selected again after 2012,  SKKU, with its previous achievements in the past project, received an ‘excellent’ mark in its assessment which evaluated the curricular organization, faculty availability and proposed model for a pharmaceutical industry-specialized graduate school. Ewha Womans University, with the goal of cultivating female leaders based on demands from companies in pharmaceutical industry, received a high mark for its global education program which included procurement of excellent faculty and cooperation with foreign universities and companies.

"Though this project, we are expecting an output of specialist who will take on the core roles in the pharmaceutical industry”, explains the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
