2016 Times Higher Education Asian University Rankings Released 2016.06.30

Times Higher Education (THE) presented their Asian university rankings for 2016 on June 20th.  Among Korean universities, POSTEC, Seoul National University, and KAIST were ranked eighth to tenth, respectively.

POSTEC climbed to eighth from eleventh last year, but Seoul National University went down to ninth from sixth, and KAIST also went down to tenth from eighth.

 

Sungkyungwan University (16th in 2015 → 12th in 2016), Korea University (26th → 17th), GIST (32nd), Yonsei University (28th → 37th), Hanyang University (54th → 39th), Kyunghee University (67th → 42nd), the University of Ulsan (85th → 52nd), Ewha Women’s University (53rd → 55th), Chungang University (97th → 70th), and Pusan National University (100th → 84th) were placed in the top 100 Asian universities this year.

 

The honor of the top university in Asia, according to THE, this year was returned to the National University of Singapore which was in second place last year.  The University of Tokyo, which was last year's winner, dropped to 7th place.

 

Both Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and Peking University in China earned the second title.  Also, the University of Hong Kong got 4th and Tsinghua University earned 5th.

THE announces their world university rankings every year by conducting a comprehensive evaluation of universities' educational environment, international reputation, income from research and business cooperation, volume of research, and citation ratio of papers.
