505 People Participated in Volunteer Work in 35 Villages on 10th Anniversary of Sisterhood Relations 2016.07.01

President Kyu Sang Chung said, “Volunteering for rural communities is a good opportunity for Sungkyungwan students to give energy to agriculture in the communities.”

 

Sungkyungwan University President Kyu Sang Chung mentioned on Monday, June 27th that 314 students have been volunteering in 21 villages in Chungju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do Thursday, June 23rd to Tuesday, June 28th.  Also, 191 students have been doing volunteer work in 14 villages in Sangju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Friday, June 24th to Wednesday, June 29th.  A total of 505 students have been participating for 5 nights and 6 days.

Even though it is hot, students are helping to pick potatoes, plant beans, thin out unnecessary fruits, and farm grapes.  The president and 10 academic executives have visited 2 villages (Masa Village, Sindae Village) in Chungju-si to encourage students.

 

President Kyu Sang Chung, who visited Chungju-si to cheer up students on Sunday, June 26th, said, “I am so pleased that many students can do volunteer work for rural communities this year, and I hope that students’ help will be very useful to shorthanded rural communities during busy season for farmers.  This volunteer work will be a good opportunity for Sungkyungwan students to give energy to agriculture and these communities.”

 

This year is the 10th anniversary since Sungkyungwan University was paired with Chunju-si in “a sisterhood relationship of 1 school with 30 villages.”  On Sunday, June 26th, there is a ceremony to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this relationship and at that time, 20 representatives including president Kyu Sang Chung and the branch manager of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation in Chungju-si participated in this event.  Sungkyungwan University was awarded an appreciation plaque to celebrate their consistent relationships and they decided to try and continue them.
