SKKU Cooperates with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure,
and Transport for the Development of New Oil Technology

This project aims to develop and demonstrate the core technology of the plant’s unconventional oil production, processing, and transport for securing mid/upstream (production/transport) field plant construction technology competitiveness. The research was launched last April and the enterprise organization was established today, along with its signboard hanging ceremony for successful research objective achievements.
This enterprise group is composed of one overall management section and five focused sections. Starting from this year to 2028, a total of 220 billion won will be invested for 7 years, and with SKKU as the center, the overall managing institute, and other 47 institutes will take part in the development project.
The assignments of the enterprise group will be divided into two phases which the first phase involves intensive research and development of core technology starting from April 2022 to December 2025 (3 years 9 months), and the second phase where technology application/demonstration such as construction/start-up test/continuous operation is held will be proceeded from January 2026 to December 2028 (3 years). In the ceremony, the signboard, logo, and website of the enterprise group were disclosed, and after that progress report was held to report the management and progress status of the main subjects, discussing future management plans.
President Shin said, “The unconventional oil production technology is a new growing high value-added business and a field of infinite potential that can decide the future of our country. Thus, I’d like to celebrate the start of the ‘Unconventional production plant construction core technology R&D enterprise group’ that suits the vision and objective of our university to coexist with global companies.
