Professor Lee Jin Wook nominated as 2022 SKKU Nobel prize candidate

SKKU has chosen Prof. Lee Jin Wook for the SKKU Nobel Prize Sponsorship award candidate, and on April 11th had an award ceremony at the 600th-anniversary hall. Professor Lee will receive sponsorship of 50 million won with the aspiration of the SKKU Nobel prize.

On the day of the ceremony, various personage participated celebrating and encouraging the candidate: Yoon Yong Taek (SKKU Nobel Prize Candidate Sponsorship Committee Chairman, Current President of Alumni Association), Lee Choong Gu (Unix Electronics Inc. Chairman), Lee Geun Myun (Previous Director of Human Resources), Geum Hyun Sook (Current Full-time Vice-president of Alumni Association), Cho Joon Mo (Vice-president, Humanities Campus), Park Sun Gyu (Vice-president, Natural Science Campus), Shin Dong Ryeol (President of SKKU), Ji Seong Woo (Office of External Affairs & Public Relations)


The laureate of this year, Professor Lee, had his bachelor’s at Electronic Engineering and Energy Science Master and Ph.D. at SKKU and was appointed as professor of SKKU Advanced Institute of Nanotechnology in November 2019.



He is currently researching the development of optoelectronic devices using organic-inorganic composite semiconductor materials. He also published 88 Perovskite solar cell field SCI papers and developed the maximization of Perovskite solar cell life span. He was part of the Korea Research Foundation Global Ph.D. fellowship from 2011 to 2015. In addition, he was selected for the Korea Research Foundation’s Fostering the Next Generation of Researchers Post-Doctoral Domestic and Overseas Training Project.



SKKU Nobel Prize Fund was raised by Alumni Association President Yoon Yong Taek in June of 2018 to provide the basis to the Korean Nobel prize to support professors of Nobel prize-level potential and their pioneering research accomplishments. Ever since it started fundraising, 1.43 billion won have been raised and many other alumni are still participating in the fund.

Yoon Yong Taek, SKKU Nobel Prize Candidate Sponsorship Committee Chairman delivered his congratulator speech as “The academic achievement is creating new value in the field of photovoltaic devices and solar cells that are essential for future generations. On behalf of 240,000 alumni and 50 million Koreans, wishes to receive the Nobel prize.”

Professor Lee Jin Wook said, “I am very pleased to receive bachelor and master, Ph.D. at SKKU and also appointed as a professor as well. I was very grateful for the support on research, but even more grateful for the award today. As much as I received help from the university and elsewhere, I will devote to meaningful research that can help the university and the country.”
