Col. Timothy Russell (Air Force Research Lab, AFRL) Visits SKKU

On October 11 (Tue), Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) International Cooperation Chief Col. Timothy Russell and 3 program managers (Lt. Col. Michael Richards, Dr. Tony Kim & Dr. Chagaan Baatar (US Navy)) visited SKKU’s Industrial Technology Hub Center for Complex Materials Facilities (Director Prof. Jonghwan Suhr of the Department of Mechanical Engineering).

In this visit, we reviewed the project SKKU is carrying out with support from the AFRL and discussed future joint research with SKKU. In particular, in September, the center received an additional research project from the development of composite materials for wearable devices from AFOSR under AFRL.

The visiting group held a meeting with President Dong Ryeol Shin online, and Dean of SKKU Institute for Convergence, Prof. Jae Do Nam (Department of Chemical Engineering), Prof. Jonghwan Suhr (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Prof. Ilyup Choi (Center), and Research Prof. Hyojung Kim (Center) attended the event as research managers of AFRL’s current projects.

Col. Russell said, “It is encouraging that SKKU’s research infrastructure is world-class and its research capabilities, especially in the field of composite materials, are producing excellent results. I am looking forward to the results of the joint research in the future.”

President Shin expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the AFRL by saying, “We are very proud that SKKU’s research capabilities are recognized at a global level, and we expect to create new values by activating mid-to-long-term international joint research with excellent faculty members in various fields including software with artificial intelligence, as well as composite materials.”
